I should point out right off the bat I didn’t draw that picture up top. Pretty sweet though, ain’t it? I don’t know who did the original illustration but it’s Linnea Quigley as Trash in Return of the Living Dead…one of the greatest horror flicks of the eighties! Anyhoo, I’ve never been accused of having good taste, especially when it comes to movies. However, I was watching Sleepaway Camp 3 last night and realized why the eighties is my favorite era for horror flicks. I’m not going to say there weren’t some awesome horror flicks to come out of the seventies, but they’re just a little grittier and more mean-spirited…y’know, your flicks like Last House on the Left and I Spit on Your Grave. The eighties stuff we were renting on vhs back in the day had seemed to have a more enjoyable vibe and more importantly…a synth score. Movies like Toxic Avenger and Chopping Mall benefit greatly from that cheezy eighties synth, don’t they? With that said, here’s my continuing list of movies to rent throughout the month of October as you prepare for Halloween. The bulk of which are eighties classics:

Sleepaway Camp 1-3

Trick or Treat

Chopping Mall

Slumber Party Massacre 1-3

Sorority House Massacre 2

Mother’s Day

Graduation Day

Friday the 13th

Nightmare on Elm Street

Evil Dead 2

Night of the Creeps

Return of the Living Dead

Halloween 1,2,4 and 5 (I’d skip three if I were you!)
