A lot can be said for creature features. I personally love them, but to some they’re practically considered the lowest rung on the direct-to-dvd ladder; often relegated to the SyFy channel line-up much the same way 80’s teen sex comedies were to USA Up All Night. True aficionados of the giant monster movie genre have come to tolerate an awful lot of banality as long as the promise of some awesome creature violence is delivered upon. Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus does not subject one to that sort of filler. In fact, it kicks off with a jaw-droppingly huge giant croc attack and then immediately jumps to a battleship, where our resident shark expert, Jaleel “Urkel” White (Family Matters) sees his fiancee eat it, mega-shark-style! Oh, Mega Shark…it’s been far too long!
To say that I’ve been waiting a long time to see this movie would be an understatement. My fear was that it just wouldn’t live up to what I had been expecting. Within the last year we’ve seen increasingly better and better product released from The Asylum such as Mega Shark Vs Giant Octopus, 2010: Moby Dick, and my personal favorite, Mega Piranha. Would they be able to top it? Well, they could and they did! Ridiculously over-the-top dialogue and a final 40-plus minutes of monstrous creature battling has easily made Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus one of my new faves. Check it out today at The Asylum’s website.
